Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
Shoichi Taguchi (the "Developer") sets forth this Privacy Policy (the "Policy") regarding the handling of personal information and usage data of users of the iOS application "Focuro" (the "App"). This Policy is operated together with the Terms of Service.
Note: This Policy is written primarily for users in Japan. The Japanese version is the original; this English translation is provided for convenience. In case of any conflict, the Japanese version prevails.
1. Basic Principle
The App handles two categories of data: (1) primary data that the User directly creates (such as exam goals, history, and settings), and (2) anonymous usage statistics (event logs).
Primary data is not transmitted to any server operated by the Developer. Data entered or generated by the User is, as a rule, stored only on the User's own device or in the User's own iCloud account.
Anonymous usage statistics are sent to multiple third-party analytics service providers, as described below (Sections 2-5 and 5), for the purpose of improving the quality of the App and understanding usage trends. If you do not wish to have anonymous usage statistics collected, please delete the App. Once the App is deleted, no further events are sent.
2. Information Collected
The App handles the following information.
2-1. Information that Users enter or configure within the App
- Exam goals (goal name, exam date)
- Block settings (name, block mode, time limit, selected target apps)
- Block schedules (days of week, start and end times)
- Focus timer settings (focus duration, break duration)
- Daily focus goal (in minutes)
- Display settings (theme, notification reminders)
2-2. Information that the App records automatically
- Focus session history (start and end times, completion / interruption status, interruption reason)
- Block session history (activation and deactivation times)
- Streak (consecutive achievement days)
- Achievement badge progress
2-3. Information handled via Apple's Screen Time API
The App indirectly handles information of the following kinds through Apple's Screen Time API (the DeviceActivity framework):
- Opaque reference tokens issued by Apple's OS that represent the apps, categories, and web domains the User has selected as block targets
- App usage time of monitored apps, used to detect events such as time-limit thresholds being reached
This information is processed entirely within Apple's sandbox and the OS, and the App does not directly obtain or store the raw app names or usage time. The App handles only the opaque reference tokens provided by Apple.
In addition, the App registers configured time thresholds (for example, 30 minutes) with the Screen Time API. The actual measurement of app usage time is performed by the OS, and only events such as threshold notifications are delivered to the App. The App does not obtain raw usage time data.
2-4. Information collected by the system
Information automatically collected by the App Store and Apple's system features (such as crash reports) is governed by Apple's privacy policy. The App itself does not collect personally identifying information such as the User's name, email address, telephone number, location, or contacts.
2-5. Anonymous usage statistics sent to a third-party analytics service
To improve quality, refine features, and understand usage trends, the App sends the following anonymous usage statistics to multiple third-party analytics service providers located in the United States.
Examples of information sent:
- Event names (e.g., focus session started, block setting activated, onboarding completed)
- Timestamps of events
- Focus session length and break length (in minutes), and whether sessions completed or were interrupted
- Whether block settings exist and their mode (full block / time limit), whether schedules exist
- Whether achievement badges have been earned and the streak day milestone (e.g., 7 days reached)
- App version, OS version, and general device class (e.g., iPhone)
- A pseudonymous identifier automatically assigned by the analytics service on a per-device basis (not linked to the User's name or other personal information)
Information NOT sent:
- Personally identifying information such as name, email address, telephone number, or address
- User-entered text such as the name of the User's exam goal
- Specific names of the apps, categories, or web domains the User has selected as block targets
- Specific time ranges of block schedules
- Free-text reasons that the User enters when interrupting a focus session
- Geolocation inferred from IP address (IP address collection is disabled)
- Cookies or advertising identifiers (IDFA) used by the analytics service
If you do not wish to have anonymous usage statistics sent, please delete the App. Once the App is deleted, no further events are sent to the analytics service. To request deletion of data already sent, please contact us using the address in Section 10.
2-6. Information included in crash reports
To improve quality, when the App crashes, it sends a crash report to a third-party crash reporting provider (located in the United States). Crash reports contain the following information.
Examples of information sent:
- Stack traces at the time of the crash (technical information indicating program execution location)
- App version, OS version, and general device class
- Crash timestamp
- Custom information set by the Developer for debugging (summary of screen transitions, log messages, etc.)
- A pseudonymous identifier shared with the analytics service (per device, not linked to the User's name or other personal information)
Information NOT sent:
- Personally identifying information such as name, email address, telephone number, or address
- Names of exam goals, free-text input, or selected app names
The stack traces in crash reports are technical information and do not identify individuals.
3. Where Information is Stored
| Type of information | Storage location |
|---|---|
| Exam goals, block settings, schedules, timer settings, history, badges, etc. | The on-device local database |
| Block setting activation status, notification settings, and other shared values | An on-device area shared between the App and its extensions (such as widgets) |
| Screen Time API tokens and monitoring state | The Screen Time sandbox managed by Apple's OS |
| Cross-device sync (optional) | The User's own iCloud |
| Anonymous usage statistics (Section 2-5) | Cloud servers operated by multiple third-party analytics service providers (United States) |
| Crash reports (Section 2-6) | Cloud servers operated by a third-party crash reporting provider (United States) |
iCloud sync is automatically enabled when the User is signed in to iCloud. Synced data is stored within the iCloud account associated with the User's own Apple ID, and cannot be accessed by the Developer or any third party.
Anonymous usage statistics sent to the analytics service are stored on cloud servers operated by that provider. For the name of the provider and the provider's privacy policy, please contact us using the address in Section 10.
4. Purpose of Use
The information collected and stored is used solely for the following purposes.
- To provide the basic functionality of the App (blocking, timer, reports, countdown, badges, etc.), including sharing with widgets and Extensions
- To display information in Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets
- To deliver notifications such as focus session completion or schedule start reminders
- To synchronize data with other devices under the same Apple ID
- To improve the quality and features of the App, and to understand usage trends, based on the anonymous usage statistics described in Section 2-5 (sent to multiple third-party analytics service providers)
- To identify and fix bugs, based on the crash reports described in Section 2-6
5. Disclosure to Third Parties / Outsourcing
The App does not sell User information. The App does not perform cross-site or cross-app tracking based on advertising networks or advertising identifiers (IDFA).
However, for the purpose of improving the quality of the App and understanding usage trends, the App outsources the transmission of the anonymous usage statistics described in Section 2-5 to multiple third-party analytics service providers located in the United States. In addition, for the purpose of identifying and fixing bugs, the App outsources the transmission of the crash reports described in Section 2-6 to a third-party crash reporting provider located in the United States. Such outsourcing is treated under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan as "consigned processing" rather than "third-party provision," and the providers do not use the received data for any purpose other than analytics or crash analysis for the App. The data sent to the analytics services and the crash reporting provider does not include any directly identifying personal information such as name or email address. For the names of the providers and other details, please contact us using the address in Section 10.
In addition, in cases falling under any of the items of Article 27, paragraph 1 of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan (such as where required by law; where necessary to protect the life, body, or property of a person and where it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User; where particularly necessary for the improvement of public health or the sound development of children; or where necessary to cooperate with state agencies), the Developer may disclose information to the extent necessary.
6. Deletion of Data and Stopping Usage Statistics
- When the User executes "Delete all data" from "Settings" within the App, the on-device data is deleted. If iCloud sync is enabled, the corresponding data in iCloud is also deleted via the synchronization mechanism (depending on the network state, the synchronization may take some time to complete).
- To ensure complete removal of data from iCloud, the User can delete the relevant data from the device's "Settings" → "Apple ID" → "iCloud" → "Focuro".
- Uninstalling the App also removes the on-device data (data on iCloud may remain; please use step 2 to delete it as needed).
- To stop transmissions of anonymous usage statistics to the third-party analytics service providers, please delete the App. Once the App is deleted, no further events will be sent. To request deletion of statistics already sent, please contact us using the address in Section 10. Note that it may not be possible to remove your data from already-aggregated statistical indicators.
7. Children's Personal Information
- The App is intended for users aged 13 or older.
- The App does not knowingly collect personally identifying information from users under 13.
- Users under 13 must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian and use the App together with parental controls such as Apple Family Sharing or Screen Time.
8. Data Security
The Developer takes design-level measures to minimize the data collected during the design and development of the App. Specifically:
- The User's input data, history, exam goals, and other primary data are not transmitted to any server operated by the Developer, but are kept on the User's own device and within the User's own iCloud account.
- Transmissions to the third-party analytics service providers are limited to anonymous events suitable for aggregation; no name, email address, free-text input, or selected app names are sent.
- Crash reports sent to the third-party crash reporting provider are limited to technical information such as stack traces; no name, email address, free-text input, or selected app names are sent.
- IP address collection is disabled on the analytics side, and data is not linked to advertising identifiers (IDFA).
These measures minimize the risk of leakage and unauthorized access. Data protection during iCloud sync and App Store distribution relies on the security measures of Apple Inc.; the security of data sent to the analytics service and the crash reporting provider relies on the security measures of those providers.
9. Changes to This Policy
The contents of this Policy may be modified as necessary in response to changes in laws and regulations or to feature additions of the App. When making material changes, the Developer will provide notice within the App or at a location designated by the Developer. If the User continues to use the App after such changes, the User shall be deemed to have agreed to the modified Policy.
10. Disclosure Requests, Complaints, and Contact
- The App's primary data (exam goals, history, settings, etc.) is not retained on any server operated by the Developer. Data of the App stored on the User's own device or iCloud account can be inspected and deleted by the User in accordance with Section 6 of this Policy.
- To request deletion or disclosure of anonymous usage statistics already sent to the third-party analytics service providers, or to request the names, locations, and privacy policies of the providers, please contact us at the address below. The Developer will arrange for deletion based on the pseudonymous identifier on your behalf. Note that it may not be possible to remove your data from already-aggregated statistical indicators.
